I have a 6 year old Maytag wide by side fridge model #MZD2768GE that is not staying cold enough. The bottom of the freezer is cold enough to freeze water and I am getting Ice build up but the top is very warm, the fridge keeps warming up as well. If I load it up with ice I can keep it cool enough to keep things from going bad. I would appreciate any ideas before I have to call in repairman.

I would start by totally defrosting both the freezer and the frig. It may be cold enough in your area to put your food outside for several hours. Let the Maytag defrost, I think ice may be blocking your air circulation. If this works check to see that your door seals are in perfect shape. Air leakage can allow moisture inisde causing more condensation than the unit can handle.

I had the same problem with a fridge, the fan that circulates the cold air from the freezer into the fridge had seized up so the cold air was not circulating. Because of this the entire back of the fridge froze up with ice (between the walls). The first time, we thawed it out completely and someone reseated the fan (it had "walked" it self far enough out to hit something) and it worked for several months longer. It happened twice more and finally had to replace the fridge.
