I am a single mum of 3 children ages 3, 6 and 8.
My middle child is nasty to his little sister, insists on whistling loudly from the moment he wakes up until the second he falls asleep and is consistently rude to me and his siblings punctuated by the odd tantrum when he doesn't get his own way.
He is not having an easy time as he is very shy with an extrovert older brother who makes his life unpleasant whenever he can.
Also we are an English family living in France so he has had difficulties in school.
He has few friends as he can be quite aggressive.
I don't know how to handle him at all.
I try to spend time with him each day doing something just the two of us together although frequently that is just at bedtime when I read him a story in his bed.
I very rarely if ever have only one child during the day.
At times we all get on OK but there are more often times when he calls us all names, hits and kicks and will absolutely refuse to do anything he is asked (such as get dressed).
I have to put him in his room fairly frequently as the rest of the family cannot function with him in the family room at times. He enjoys the time on his own and will often play there by himself for half an hour or so and then come downstairs in a much better mood.I love him very much but am struggling to like him at the moment and am worried this is only going to get worse.
It seems to be turning into a battle of wills.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
