I want to know why replacing a shorted out well pumpcontrol &a capacitor the breaker still kicks off

Has anyone put a Amp-Probe on the pumps to see how many amps it's pulling? Let me know, Tom

Speed ball 1 it is a submersible pump & motor I'm trying to find the cheepist way to replace it . Every body here wants 1250. To 1800. To replace it I'm in montgomery, Tx. rwalker04

Have you unhooked the wiring at the well head to insure that you don't have a short citcuit in the wiring between the breaker and the well head?

I assume that means, with the wires from the breaker disconnected at the well head, you have power and the breaker does not trip.

With the wires from the breaker connected to the controls and the capacitor, disconnect the wires going down the well.

With the wires going down the well disconnected from the controls and the capacitors, turn breaker on and see if breaker trips.

Do a continuity check between each wire going down the well and the ground wire.


Do a continuity check between the two wires going down the well. There should be continuity between the two conductors, but there should be high resistance.


P.S.
I am assuming controls and capacitors are at well head.

Do you have the equipment and necessary skills to complete the checks that Harold advised? If not you may have to call in a electrician to complete the checks. Good luck, Tom

No they go from the breaker to the pump control then to the well head

If you have power to the well head and do not trip the breaker, with the wiring disconnedted at the well head, you either have a short in the wiring down the well or a pump problem.

Do the continuity checks on the wiring down the well.

How deep is the well, size and kind of well pipe?

Harold. Do not know how deep or size, galvanize pipe where the wires are , Had the well put in when the house was built in 1996 . Ray rwalker04
