I am a apprentice carpenter and I am working on a house where a back carrying beam is rotted and I want to reinforce it with a 2 x 8 but run into problems cause the house refuses to lift with bottle jacks. It goes up a bit but not enough for the 2 x 8 to clear the main beam. I have tried different ways to get the 2 x8 along side that carrying beam but it just won't go. Any advice with this will be greatly appreciated.

Cut the 2X so it does clear and shim it in.

Doubt that a bottle jack is going to lift the house. Need something bigger.

How much do u have to raise it? Rent a couple of house jacks.

I have two 32 ton bottle jacks that lifts the house but won't lift where I need it. Only has to go up two inches.

Usually once the house starts to lift it will lift all around where your jacking' the back just won't lift which is very odd.
