Hi, we are buying a house that has a 60amp system. We have negotiated him to upgrade to a 200amp system but he countered saying the electrician said 150amp will be OK and it is also minimum code for marion, Iowa. I'm willing to pay the difference between 150 to 200amp if its reasonable. Any thoughts on how much that might run?

150 Amp is an odd size, 200 amp is much more popular. Can't tell you the cost difference, which should be slight, but I highly recommend you go with the 200 amp.

I got quotes for 100A and 200A back in about 2005. 100 was $800 and 200 was $1200. I took the 200 because 'everyone' says to, but what I didn't anticipate was the huge thick coil outside an upstairs window.
