I will be installing a 125 amp breaker box for a shed and another 200 amp breaker box for the house. I am going to install a 400 amp meter socket outside the shed since the house is not built yet. Can I terminate the two main feeders from the meter socket to the main breaker without having a main disconnect? What size wire and insulation should I use? Help please.

Assuming you will be using aluminum wire, the 125 amp panel will need #1/0 XHHW.

You may go from the meter to the Main Breaker in the panel, providing the wiring is all outside, it can enter a building, but needs to connect to the Main Breaker immediately.

Ok. The next question is for the 200 amp panel for the house. The house will be like 50 ft away from the shed or meter socket. The wires are going underground. Do I need a 200 amp disconnect next to the meter then to the house? Or can I terminate the wires straight from the meter to the main breaker on the 200 amp panel? Thanks for replying.

You will need to install a 200 amp disconnect by the meter before you go to the house because of the distance from the meter

I thought so, but I wasn't sure and now I am. Thank you all for your help.
