My mom and I watched a movie a while ago about this troubled teen boy who is forced by his mom to go live with his grandfather in Montana I think. Once he gets there his grandpa decides he is going to make him ride across some states on horse back with him. When they start they are traveling with some of his grandpas "trail friends" then they head out on their own. On their journey the boy gets really close with his grandpa and begins to understand why he was sent to stay with him in the first place, then farther on the ride his grandpa dies and he burrys him on the trail and finishes the ride back to California by himself.

I can't find ANY info on it anywhere... and I would love to see it again :(
