Hi melbratt and welcome to The Plumbing Page at AskMeHelpDesk.com
First off. LOSE THE CAPS! We don't yell at one another at The Plumbing Page.
I CALLED MOEN AND THEY SAID I DON'T NEED TO TAKE IT OUT IT IS FAR ENOUGH AWAY FROM THE JOINT. HMMM GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS? I really hate to go heads up against then manufacture but I think Moen is mistaken. The cartridge has neoprene "O" rings that can be damaged by the heat.

I CAN NOT GET THE CARTRIDGE OUT. I BOUGHT THE SPECIAL TOOL TO GET THE CLIP RING OUT BUT THE CARTRIAGE WILL NOT PULL OUT
and was this "special tool" a Moen cartridge puller? (see image)
The puller doesn't remove the horseshoe shaped clip. It simply pulls out. The puller rooves the cartridge. This may help. Good luck, Tom
