I am 19 years old. About four years ago I went to the doctor's and they told me that I had Chlamydia. They gave me the treatment for it but I missed a lot of days to take it. Now, me and my husband have been trying to get pregnant but I am still not pregnant. I am worried that I may still have chlamydia and that I am infertile now. What is the possibility that I can no longer have kids if I have had chlamydia for the past four years?

You should see your physician if you're planning to get pregnant, - so they can discuss your fertility and also perform a gynecological exam and assess your general health.

Certain blood-tests for antibodies can indicate whether your previous (or current) chlamydia infection has caused damage or scarring to the fallopian tubes (the cause of infertility). A swab test alone can miss an infection that has moved from the cervix up the fallopian tubes.

Make sure to take your antibiotics as prescribed (without missing doses) if you're infected. Taking the pills and following up on your health is an important responsibility --- not unlike raising a kid for 18 years ;)
