My ex-girlfriend and I worked together in the same office of Adult Protective Services. She used her position as a social worker with special access to search the database and check me out.

She learned I was on food stamps, had received unemployment, and my real (temporary trailer park) address. It changed her whole attitude toward me and I sensed the change in the way she treated me.

Last month she dumped me and used her influence on our superiors to have me transferred out of the office. Her reason was the made-up pretense that I would retaliate for her dumping me.

I don't dare call her to tell her I know and won't do anything because my new supervisor (a friend of hers) will find out in a minute. This is tearing me up inside. What can I do without getting us both fired?

No, HIPAA deals with medical information, so had she looked up your doctor records, your hospital records that would have been a violation.

It is very possible that she broke company rules on unautharized use of the computer and system. So why before they fired you did you not report it, or question it

But at this point ? You move on, fell good that you are broken up with her, and that you are out of her office and don't have to deal with her every day

I wasn't fired. I was hired into a better position in the same business unit at another work site. And if I report it now, I won't make it past the probationary period, but she'll likely just get a reprimand.

I want no retribution. I just want to let her know I know so she thinks twice before she does it to the next poor guy.

So wait until your probation is over ans then send her a nice letter thanking her for getting you transferred as it resulted in your now having a better position.

She previously didn't know where you lived? Interesting. Your must be using "girlfriend" in the original sense of the word. :)
