Why should drugs be ketp illegal

Not all drugs are illegal!!
Alcohol isn't illegal - it's a taxable drug! :p

And cigarettes!!

Probably because drugs can be a very powerful weapon for destroying your health.
Many make u addicted. Imagine how many junkies could have been if drugs were to be leaglized. People aren't selforganized enough to use drugs.
Even tough I am for legaglising marihuana. :)

I am just proposing an idea - playing the Devil's Advocate on this.

Think of it though - if the illegal was taken away from the sale of drugs - where would the pushers and dealers go? If there were safe houses, so to speak, where people could go and get their drugs and it was all legal. Would not have to worry about dirty needle sharing so the risk of contracting disease would be lessened. Maybe some of the attraction to illicit drugs would not be so strong.

Now I know what people would say - there would be outrage and condemnation for such an idea. But think about the war on drugs - no one is winning in that war except the dealers. The losers are already our children, neighbors, family members, and communities.

Society ( that invisable group that sets our standards and morals)

In each group within a total society mankind develops rules and standards for proper behavior. This acceptance changes and is alter as time goes by to include changes in what each section of society deems acceptable.

Example for a while drinking was illegal, at one time coke ( not the soda) was not illegal and a common drug during Civil War times.

Other examples are age allowed to marry, number of wife's allowed.

Even things like hand shaking and eye contact changes from society group to society group and over the years within a group.

So those things illegal today are so, because the majority of those people in authority viewing what they believe is a public morality standard deem it to be so

Yeah, I've heard that there will be lots of addicts if we legalize drugs, but I disagree.

Oh yes, there may be a few who'll try drugs and get addicted, but most people won’t. Do you know anybody who is just waiting for drugs to be legalized in order to try them?? No you don't. Anybody you know who has a propensity to use drugs, is using drugs right now.

Plus, if drugs were legalized, the people who are addicts right now would have a chance to get OFF drugs, because we surly would make treatment available on demand, whereas it ISN'T available now.

So, I believe there would be a net LOSS of addicts, should we come to our senses and stop the madness.

We must elebarate of wich drug we are speaking, I agree with you if u are talking about soft drugs - marihuana,alcohol...

But we are now living in a society that is very liberized, I have noticed that many more people are reaching for drugs than they used to and age boundary is lowering. Now imagine that you can buy heroin in a store. You don't need a lot of shots to get addictive.
Now young people very much like to experiment with difrent things.
To go further just the point of legalisng something makes it in the eyes of public a safe thing. Won't u agree?

They could have snorted cocaine in civil war as Mr Chuck said but that time was very difrent, I am talking about mass media, if something is leaglised that means that you can advertise it.

Heroin, makes your eyes open! What are you waiting for, you can grab it in first drug store or gas station. (Minestry of health advises Heroin may be bad for your health.)

Yes I agree it should be banned in restaurants but not in bloody pubs and clubs! As for legalising ganga it would be wkd but it would be soooo expensive to buy, the government would put loads of tax on it!!

Actually if take Amsterdam for an example, the price there is lower than the price on black market throughout europe.

The reason drugs will never be legalized is because if they were, the government would put taxes on them. And then you would go back to the dealer on the streets and get them for cheaper, but you couldn't be convicted for it!

And legalizing drugs wouldn't breed more addicts, in denmark the posseson of many drugs in legal. And it has one of the lowest drug related crime rates and drug addicts in the EU! The government there has set up drop in centres so you can tests your drugs so they are safe. About time other countries take note!

I am sorry Patrick but I think you are mistaken because Drugs aren't legalized in any country
In the EU especially Denmark. Probably you thought Netherlands where they have this centres of wich you speak. But even there the only legalised drugs are cannabis products.
If we are percize to the point also cannabis isn't leaglized here in the strict law, it is only tolerated and I think decriminlized.
