My ex boyfriend has several items of furniture that he refuses to pick up from my home. His name was never on the lease, so I feel that he has no legal right to use my home as a storage unit. While I search about Virginia state abandonment laws, the only ones I find are regarding landlords and tenants. I sent him a registered letter telling him he had ten days to pick up his things. (This was after several phone calls, text messages, emails asking the same thing)I just want to know if I can really get rid of his things in ten days? Or will I end up being served?

If he lived there more than a month... he was a tenant, Doesn't matter if his name was on the lease or not. That's how the law works.

10 days is pushing your luck...

I would move them to a self storage unit... pay the first month rent yourself and send him the papers and key for the unit... he either pays for for it to remain, or he has a month to recover them... and whatever happens after that time is out of your hands.
