Hi,
I'm building room onto the back of our house for my wife. I have framed up the walls for an eight foot ceiling. She asked me if I could give her a nine foot ceiling. So, can I safely add a one foot stud wall to the top of my existing wall safely? The room is 34 feet by 12 feet and I taking the roof back to the existing ridge and installing a metal roof. I will of course remove the shingles from the existing roof to reduce weight.
Thanks,
Pat

Frankly I don't see why not. Build a one foot wall and sit it on top of the eight foot wall. Make the studs come out on top of one another. Fasten the two plates together with construction adhesive and screws.

That's what I'd do too!

Thanks,
I was fairly sure I could but it never hurts to ask just to be safe.

For added strength of short wall when doing the sheathing put fill piece in middle.
