I had filed for federal tax returns and along with I applied for ITIN for my kid. I filed as married filing jointly. Now I got the W7 form rejected saying that send the original docs of my child(passport) to validate them before sep 14th. My questions are below
1) Can I send the notarised copy of my child's passport
2) Will my federal returns process will still be in progress even my w7 form is on hold since w7 is only necessary for state returns.
Kindly clarify

The IRS has had severe problems with forged passports, so they are now requiring that the passport photocopies be certified by the issuing government.

You CAN have that done by your government's consulate; call the IRS and ASK if that is acceptable. If so, do that, because the IRS has been known to LOSE passports.

The tax return will NOT be processed until after the deadline if you do not comply.
