Hi I am building a bathroom in my basement and I need to install my toilet 6 feet from my vent. And my shower is going to drain into my toilet waste line aprox 5 feet down the line from the toilet and aprox 5 feet away from the same vent line. I'm esing a 3" pipe for my toilet and a 2" pipe for my shower my questions are can I attach my shower drain to my toilet drain? And will that one 2" vent be close enough to both fixtures to work?

Hi Dfrost

If your sink drain/vent is 2" then you would be better off tying your shower drain into the sink drain. In this manner, your sink vent will WET VENT the new shower... ;)

If your toilet isn't already vented AND you connect the shower drain WYE fitting (or combination wye) so it rolls above the center line of the toilet drain then yes, the shower drain/vent will WET VENT the toilet... acceptable in most states!
