The capacitor failed on my unit, it's been replaced but the compressor will not start up, could it be that the hard start relay is also bad or what else might I look for?

First you might try checking the circuit breakers and the fuses in the outside disconnect if so equipped.

Next look where the wires go to the compressor under the cover that is on the compressor. They have been known to burn off and need to be repaired.

So far those two ideas have been free except for your labor.

Now on the hard start part issue. If your unit has a factory start kit it could be bad BUT usually if it is bad the compressor will try to start and fail so you should hear a noise at least from the compressor. If you do not hear any noise from the compressor at all I feel it would not be the hard start setup.

There are other possibility's that are in the low voltage arena. Is the contactor/starter pulling in? Is the 24 volt signal getting to the outdoor unit to activate the contactor/starter?
