A fine white powder (potassium bitartrate) used in baking, in small amounts, mainly to keep egg whites from breaking down.
When combined with baking soda it makes baking powder.

I love helping answer this one. My most favorite thing to bake and make in the world requires Cream of Tarter. I don't think there could be a substitute for Cream of Tarter.

It is within the frosting you find on most Angel Food Cakes. Now not to be confused with the cheap frosting that the grocery stores of today tend to be frosting their cakes of all types with. Actually it is insulting to any cake if altered whipped cream frosting is being put on it. Grocery stores seem to only know that cheap whipped cream frosting recipee, too much work for them to make a proper mouth watering frosting. I know many do like the whipped cream frosting but I think it is because they may not have had much variety in different frostings. Not intended to insult anyone OK.

Getting off a bit there. Sorry. Cream of Tarter - right? Just look up an online recipee for homemade Angel Cake and the White Angel Food Cake Frosting and on any coming up celebration do yourself an honor as well as your guests and make this treat. Thus you will see very clearly by hands-on application just what this Spice does. The time it takes to make this special Angel Food Cake and the added mouth watering frosting from our Great Grandmothers of our the past and um! Umm!! Ummm!! What a delightful tasting cake for any celebration. My kids call just to remind me their b'day is coming. Not for a gifty but for their Birthday Cake from me every year. No joke, this is true.

I am excited about you making this recipee and I don't want to answer your question directly. I want you and yours to experience a dying off treat from the past.

Ohhhh shooot. It stiffens and thickens a liquid, its pure white and it is a little time sapping but it is worth all the blending and mixing it requires. If you want a recipee just to try and learn by application just say so and I will Post it with some pictures of some from my past if you like. I had thought of going into nusiness with this in the past, that's how much people like them.

I do like to jabber so please forgive me if you did not care for me to run away with your topic so much.

Let me know if you try it okay? Please
