I have a home that the previous owner painted the brick. It would be simple to remove it if it were normal paint but of course this person worked for the city. Well, from what we can figure he used white road paint. We have tried a citrus based paint remover that didn't do anything. I tried a wire wip on the end of a drill which took the paint off but also digs into the brick. I have tried sanding and using a heat gun to no avail. If someone else has run into this sort of thing I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas!! Thanks everyone.

Getting paint out of porous brick is near impossible, as you are finding out. Best bet is to find a color you like and repaint.

There are some options available here.

The first and the messiest would be to rent a sandblaster and plastic off the room/area and sandblast the paint off.

Another option is the PEEL AWAY SYSTEM

Click on these links for the peel away system components:

The Peel away system is expensive, but looks like it will work in most cases.

Otherwise, as Brian said, repainting may be the easiest option!

Good luck

What about the various products from "Peel Away"? I've heard their products mentioned when concerning paint removal from brick...
