Hello, I am a volunteer IT tech(Barely-Telecomm. And Laptops are my specialty)for Habitat for Humanity of Kitsap County, WA. We just got new Lenovo laptops with win 7 platinum and apparently this version has the ability to connect to a domain deactivated, the box for it is there but shaded out and from what I can find out, only the pro and ultimate can connect to domains. That leaves me with WORKGROUPS as the only way to connect to a server. Problem is, I haven't the faintest idea as to how to do this with Server 2008R2. Please help! Thanks, Jeff

There is NO platinum version of Windows 7!
Is the 2008R2 server a Domain Controller and do you have the required rights?

You're right, it's home premium, didn't have my glass's on, sorry. Yes, 2008R2 is its setup as a domain and I have all rights as far as Administrator is concerned.

Bahhhh reminds me of the old Win XP Home days... I used to trick these systems. You can create a workgroup with precisely the same name as the domain. It's not pretty but it will pass info across a bit easier. You will still need to authenticate in the domain and ignore the Netbios errors as the workgroup and the domain will be likely confused by this but rarely causes problems. BEST suggestion: create an imagex with Win 7 pro and rebuild all of them or push out a build from a packaging server. Who's the guy that ordered them with the wrong OS. Beat him! ;)
