Don't ever think it's "too mean" to break up with someone, especially if you're in an unhealthy relationship. This is how people get stuck in bad relationships.

Have you tried talking to him about how you feel? It may shed some light on the situation, he might have no idea he's hurting and pushing you away. If he can't have a civilized conversation with you about your feelings, leaving may be the right thing to do.

Kick him to the curb if he's acting like that! There are plenty of guys out there that will treat you better. If this man won't treat you the way you want to be treated, then get rid of him.

If you can't bring yourself to leave him, then I'm afraid until you stand up for yourself, this will never change for the rest of your life.

Tell him if he can't be a father and responsible adult, he has to leave, and get a roommate like yourself - a young woman with a child, and you can share child care while in school.
