Awhile ago 7 years, I was caught stealing at the superstore. They said they were not charging me, later a few months I received a letter from crown attorney stating I had to attend a course at the salvation army. I did the course and paid the salvation army $$ . Now I hae apied for a joband it says possible criminal. They asked me to get criminal check done, will this appear on check. I was never taken in by police , does the crime prevention have the authority to charge or do the police have to come in.

Canada? UK? The STORE can't order you to take a course. Only the Crown Attorney can so, yes, there were criminal charges against you. After you took the course what happened?
The Crown Attorney can't order you to do anything unless there are pending charges.
Unless you know to the contrary that the charges were removed from your record I would say, yes, they will appear -

The "Cops" HAD to be involved. The Crown Attorney cannot legally make side deals with "superstores." I shoplift tomorrow the Crown Attorney isn't going to order me into class UNLESS I'm charged.
Maybe you don't remember; maybe the experience was traumatic; maybe it's something else.
Maybe the store RECOMMENDED the SA program and you could either go or be arrested. That would NOT get the Crown Attorney involved so I don't believe it's the case.
