Dr. Bill, I am subjet to random ETG test. I recently had to take a test 50 hours after consuming 4 glasses of wine. I consumed the wine in approximately two hours. The wine had 13.5 % alcohol, so that puts me at 5.4 drinks. I have probably consumed two gallons of water and ran 10 miles on the treadmill. I am 5'4, 110, 30 yrs old, healthy female. I think they use 250ng, but possibly 500ng. What are my chances of passing? If I were to fail, what would your guess be as far as the range in ng that I would be in. I am assuming very low.

I'm coming up with a different figure on standard drinks; 4.5. Based on 5 oz glasses. I use the NIH calculator for conversion:
Drink size calculator (http://rethinkingdrinking.niaaa.nih.gov/ToolsResources/DrinkSizeCalculator.asp)
Want to start with correct amount.

I had four glasses if a bottle of wine is 5 glasses. A standard drink is 10% alcohol. The wine that I consumed had 13.5% alcohol, so that would be 5.4 drinks.

I also drank quiet a bit of water afterwards and felt nothing within a couple of hours. I am certain that my BAC would have been down to 0 in four hours or less. Not sure if this helps at all. I took creating tablets the day of my test because I didn't want to dilute. I know that creatine pumps more water into your muscles and you are supposed to drink more water. It gives me a lot more stamina when running lifting weights. Not sure how that would effect the test, since I would be passing more creatine because of an overload of a supplement and not just concentrated urine.

I am curious if they test specific gravity. I know when I take supplements and vitamins even after drinking a lot of water that I am discreeting them through my urine because of the color. So, if you are discreeting excess creatine like you would other vitamins after consuming a large amount of water would that change the density? I stopped drinking liquids 5 hours before the test and my urine output had returned to normal, so I think that I am fine on that in.

I also plugged it into the calculator and got the same number. If that is correct, should I be clear if I had 5 drinks (to be on the safe side)? I am worried.

I used your figure of 5.4 drinks and ran it as grams per kilgoram of body weight, since you exercise and lift weights. You consumed .76 g/kg and EtG based on that figure should be cleared in the range of 27 - <48 hours.
However, SD US assumes 12% abv which is even better but doesn't increase the number of studies available. At your size probably falls in range of 36-42 hours.
Even at that it is too close to call as there are large variations from one individual to another and even in the same individual from time to time for alcohol metabolism as well as EtG synthesis and elimination. That means the estimates will have a considerable uncertainty in any individual case.
Regardless the consumption of water always influences the results of the test by accelerating EtG elimination.
Please let me know the results. Would assume that you will be EtG clear but can't say for certain.
ADDED: The above figures are based on a test cutoff of 100 ng/mL. Any higher cutoff is to your advantage.

I just wanted to post my experience. I am a monitored health care professional but I do not consider myself an alcoholic so I take the liberty to enjoy alcoholic beverages at my discretion. I am a mid 20's 170lb, WM with good health. I have passed a 100 ng cutoff EtG test 66 hours after consuming 150ml of 80 proof vodka in about an hour

That is entirely consistent with timed elimination studies Thanks for your report.

I passed the test at 500ng.
