Hello,

I am currently working here, in usa, using my OPT and have been in this country five and a half years. I have heard that there are some tax exemptions available for F-1 student and also heard that some of the exemptions are only valid only up to fives years of stay. So I was wondering if you can answer my questions regarding this.

1. What kind of Tax exemptions are available for F-1 Student who has been here more than 5 years.

2. Does this exemption affect the decision when applying for a green card.

Thank you very much

All of the exemptions authorized for -1 visaholders expires on the last day of the fifth year.

Starting on 1 January of the sixth year, you are considered to be a resident alien and will pay the same taxes as a U.S. citizen.
