I had a hearing today because I'm being sued by capital one. I showed up but the their attorney didn't. The people at thed desk told me that that they weren't going to show because I was suppose to call to tell them I was going. Of course I'm going to go. But they told me that I can schdule another date or have the judgement ruled against me. I don't understand?

So you did not file when you received service to inform them that you intended to defend. Normally this is required when you are served. Did they call your case before the judge or was it not even on schedule.

... I don't understand?

I don't either.

You were served with a summons. The summons instructed you to show up at the courthouse today. But someone at the court told you that the hearing won't happen because you didn't call in advance; although the summons didn't indicated that you were supposed to call ahead? Do I have all of this right?

Incredible.

What state?

The summons didn't say anything about contacting them. So that's why I didn't. & I didn't even go in front of the judge. They told me that I would have to make another court date to be able to talk to the judge. Should I contact a lawyer?

Without seeing the summons, its hard to comment. The usual process is you get a summons that gives you 20-30 days to file your intent to defend. At which point a hearing is scheduled.
