My dog has been very overweight and suddenly has become very skinney can see his ribs now,he threw up 5 days ago and will not eat at all its been five days and no food I can't take him to the vet till I get my check I think he's dying, what do you do when the vet won't see him unless you pay that day? Im so sad and I'm watching him suffer!

Him dropping weight so fast tells me he may have hyperthyroidism or is diabetic. I would actually lean more towards diabetes than anything else.

Since you can't do anything until you get paid, start feeding a "under the radar" type of food. Cook browned hamburger or boiled chicken with rice. Mix a little bit of Karo syrup in there and see how he acts.

There are also other things you can do. You can find a vet that offers CareCredit which is a credit card for medical expenses.

If your dog happens to be diabetic or needs some major hospital care, are you prepared to pay for that?

You need to try and ask friends and family if they can help you out. This dog is obviously very sick and needs some attention. Once he makes it to the doctor, he may need extensive hospitalization. You need to prepared for that.

How old is the dog? Has he been drinking? Has he had bowel movements and been urinating? Any diarrhea or vomiting?

Sadly we can't diagnose, but if he's vomiting and has diarrhea please pick up some pedialyte and administer that until you can get to the vet.

I wish I had better news for you, but a dog that suddenly stops eating, loses a dramatic amount of weight in a short time, is not well, and needs a vet asap. I hope you can find a way to get him in right away.

Please keep us posted.

How old is your dog? This is not to upset you but many times an elderly dog will let its owner know there is something wrong with it until it is at the end of its life. If it a younger and usually very active dog who often gets into things, could he have eaten something he shouldn't have?

Is he drinking liquids? If so, is that staying down or is he still throwing up? Has he tried to eat anything or is he refusing to even look at food?

Does he have any other symptoms? Does he seem to be in pain when he is touched? Is he moving around on his own or you are having to pick him up?

When do you get your check? Does your local humane society have any programs that might help? If your dog is purebred, you might see if there is club for his breed in your area that be willing to help.

I hope you will keep us informed. We all have soft spots in our hearts for fur babies and always hope for the best.

Is your vet requiring payment up front? Before they see the dog?
Most clinics (in my experience any way) require payment when the dog is discharged from the clinic that could be the same day or days later. Many place may require a deposit if the estimate for treatment is going to be expensive.
I would call them back, let them know how ill the dog is and get ALL the payment requirements.
You can actually apply for care credit on the phone or over the internet, and you get an answer pretty quick, like in minutes.
I would go online and do that now, if you are approved you can get him there tomorrow or even to an emergency vet tonight if you so choose.
Call all the other places mentioned also, even ask your vets office if they know of any other agencies or local organizations that help with things like this.
I wish you luck, keep us posted, I hope you are able to get him in soon.
