View Full Version : No water when shower turned on

So I have a Moen faucet in my tub/shower. It is the type with one handle, a tub spout, and a knob on top of the spout to activate the shower. The shower function has not been used in about 2 years due to a tile issue.

When I turn it on water comes out of the tub spout, but when I activate the shower knob no water comes out of the tub spout or the shower nozzle. It doesn't sound like water is running behind the wall or anything like that. I can't hear any water flowing really. I do have a detachable shower head, but I took it off and still no water up top.

Could this be a problem with the diverter? Are they repairable or will I need to buy a new spout? Any other ideas about what it might be if it is not the diverter in the spout?

I really would appreciate so help, so thanks in advance.

Hi elistra and Welcome to The Plumbing Page. At AskMeHelpDesk.com.

Could this be a problem with the diverter? Are they repairable or will I need to buy a new spout? That would be my first guess. But first let's do a little checking. Remove the shower head and try again. If you get pressure out of the open shower arm then replace the shower head or try soaking it in CRL or 409. If no water comes out then replace the spout. Good luck, Tom
