Can I or should I use copper water pipe if I have a water softner?
I've been told that the conditioned water will take the minerals from the copper pipe resulting in leaks eventually.
Is this true ?
This is new construction.
Thanks

No plumber would tell you that nor will I. However cooper is no longer state of the art for new or remodel work. Plumbing Pipe Basics (http://www.handyamerican.com/articles.asp?id=212-Plumbing-Pipe-Basics)

PEX or CPVC is the preferred method now.

Hi, Thanks for quick response.
It was actually a plumber that told me that.
I think he was actually trying to 'save' me. I was planning on doing it myself.
So, suppose I should use pex and get some estimates.

PEX is fine but you need special tools and the pressure rating is less than CPVC.

However, Just like galvanized has been replaced with copper. Copper has been replaced with plastic. Good luck, Tom

I ended up hiring a different plumber and we agreed on PEX.
Thank you all for input.
