My 2001 F350 with 175,000 miles had developed an oil leak while on a road trip. I had to leave it 160 miles from home. The engine 7.3L Diesel was idling and just stopped running and will not start. First thing I checked was the oil level and added 2 quarts of Amsoil that I had with me. This brought the level up to the bottom of the dip stick. I had an extra crankshaft sensor and noticed fresh oil under the engine and frame area while I changed the sensor. The friend with whom I left the truck on his property added another 4 quarts of oil to top it off to full and tried to start it and nothing new happened. The sound of the engine turning over with just the starter engaged sounds as though it is turning over faster than usual. Hard to tell for sure though because normally it starts up quickly. One mechanic told me that chances were that the oil getting low caused it to stop running and maybe it had lost its prime now that the oil level is full. What do you suggest I try next besides getting a wrecker to pick it up and take it 70 miles to the closest ford dealership either in Beeville, Tx or Laredo, Tx. My friend is going to try putting gasoline on a rag and laying it near the air filter to get it started and see if this will prime it up and stay running.
