We are looking at a HUD home and when the water pressure was tested, it went from 40 psi-0 psi in 20 minutes. They are requiring $500 go into an escrow account to have it fixed, but since we are prewarned there is a problem, we cannot back out if it turns out to cost more(without losing our earnest $). If it costs 1500 or so, we are willing to commit because it is still a good investment for the area, and other things that need repair are mostly cosmetic. Any ideas of what this might be or could cost. It is city water/sewer, built in 1964. There are no signs of water damage inside, but it has been vacant and winterized. Our Realtor suggested that if the suspected a large problem, they would've made the amount in the escrow account higher (like 1500 or so).But he is a Realtor, not a plumber, and the test was done by and appraiser, not a plumber? All it says is water supply tested, so I don't know how this test is done... SCARY! But worth it if it's a reasonable fix, without having to tear down walls etc to get to the problem. Thanks for the advice!
