Wall:
2 dimmer switches

Ceiling:
Red:Always Hot
Black: Switchable Hot from one dimmer
White
Copper Ground

I can get wall switch number 1 to dim and switch light on and off by connecting black to black and white to white .

I can get wall switch number 2 to vary fan speed and turn off fan by connecting fan black to ceiling red and joining white to white(all 3 whites are joined together , fan, light and ceiling white)

So it works but I wanted to be sure this seems correct. The always hot red concerns me.

Thanks!

Tom

Check wiring at switch to ensure that red is indeed coming off the switch. If it does then wiring is correct but switch is defective.
Not a good idea to have fan motor running through a light dimmer switch. Needs to be a fan switch.

Thanks for quick response. I have a fan switch but when I test red and white wires the bulb lights on my detector, I believe that indicates red stays hot. Is that okay? Fan seems to work fine. Thanks!

Assuming that you mean that you have confirmed that the red is coming off the switch and your test light shows a connection, no that is not all right. Means that there is a connection through the switch and there shouldn't be. Means that there is a connection but the amperage is to small for the fan to run.

Is the switch a lighted switch with out a neutral connection?
