Why does SS give a monthly check for a 70 year old mans newborn child. I Live in the Philippines and this is very common, Ex pats get married to a 18 year old and have baby's and the gov. pays them. If they can make them they should pay for them.

If you want to know why, read the SS website. I'm not reading that children get benefits when the parent is still alive. http://www.ssa.gov/

You have asked about a very specific situation. What is your interest?

I just can't figure out why our gov. does this? It is totally irresponsible. The old saying , you play, you pay does not fit any longer.. But I guess the gov. pays for the irresponsible playing.

This is a legal board - not a discussion board BUT I'm not seeing the children collect when father collects SS.

What is your interest in this specific case?
