Sure can! Pulling the flapper up by hand is the same as lifting it with the flush lever. Cheers, Tom

Yes, did it for about a month when my handle broke and I was too lazy to fix it

Just to verify, does this also apply when the flapper is just sitting there, not attached to anything?

As long as it stops the water when it is set all the way down.
But they are easy to fix, parts don't cost over 10 dollars

Do you need instructions on replacing the flush lever and adjusting the flapper linkage? Let me know, Tom
