Hello. I'm 14 years old and I used my first tampon two days ago. And when I took it out I felt kind of sore and uncomfortable. I inserted another one and couldn't feel it which as far as I know is good. When I took it out I felt relly uncomfortable and it felt like the inside opf my vagina was swollen. It hurt too walk and put my legs together. Also, my labia was sore and red. Today, when I woke the swelling had gone down but I was a bit itchy and just plain uncomfortable. I don't smell any awkward nasty discharge and I'm not weak or vomiting. It's just REALLY sore! Is it normal for first time tampon users to be sore after using one ?

They are dry when you put them in, so good to us a tiny bit of baby oil, or any kind of feminine lubricantt. This will ease the insertion, and probaby taking it out as well.

You know that tampons cause toxic shock syndrome (no, this isn't what you have).

Sounds like you are just irritated down there from putting in and taking out. To relieve the irritation, again, just rub a little baby oil on the spots that are irritating, this will diminish the irritation. We don't diagnose on AMHD; this is just my opinion of your particular problem.

If you have a few more days to go on your period, give yourself a break and use pads for now. Now you have the hang of inserting them and taking them out that is great.
