I recently purchased a used Murray riding lawn mower and now the gears won't engage. Can someone give me a checklist and the order in which to check them? I did not remove any of the tires to remove the key (which I read online today) but I will check just in case it got loose and fell out anyway. Thanking you in advance for your replies.

Hi,
Kinsa would be nice to know a model number. Could be an idler failed, the belt, the park brake locked or the shift mechanism. I do not have the luxury of being able to examine anything myself.
Peace,
Clarke

I found out what the problem is. It is the belts are worn and slipping off the pulleys. I removed them both and I am looking for belts to purchase but no retailers here seems to carry them. I tried Walmart, Home depot and a couple other small shops in the area.
The model # is 30577X8A it is a Murray riding lawn mower with 30inch cut. The larger of the two belts is a 37X57 and the smaller belt the writing is barely visible but I can make out the numbers 12-7245. I had to cut the smaller belt because I couldn't figure out how to remove it. Is there an easy way to replace these belts and can you walk me through it? Could you tell me where I can find these belts to purchase. Thanking you in advance for your reply.
