View Full Version : Should there be "solids" in standing water of the basement floor drain?

We recently bought a dehumidifer for the basement and while opening the cap of the floor drain (to put the drain hose off the dehumidifer into the drain) we noticed that the drain appears to have standing water and what appears to be "solids" or raw sewage. I think standing water is normal (p-trap, sewer gases) but shouldn't it be clear and not containing sewage? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. We are in Southern Ontario, Canada, there is no sump pump in the basement.
