My son is wanting to move to another state and live with his father (non-custodial parent). I want to respect his wishes regardless of my emotions; however, I am wondering if there are any studies showing pros and cons of allowing such a move. He has a wonderful home life here with no harmful situations. He is settled in his school and is successful in his activities. I do not believe there is a harmful environment in his fathers home either. I have heard that a judge will not likely choose a custody change unless the child is in a harmful situation. What are the reasonings behind that? I truly want to seek what is best for our child. I'm just not sure that moving him across the country will be healthy for him.
