What's the risk of me getting another cartilage piercing and it getting badly infected? It was so bad last time I had to go to the doctors and get meds to get rid of it and I had to take the earring out and let it close up. So if I got it done in the other ear would it happen again?

No way to know UNLESS it wasn't cared for properly OR the person who did the piercing was rather "loose" when it came to health precautions.
