Hi there,

My daughter found a chihuahua mix yesterday, no tags/chips. We are keeping him while we try to locate his owners, and adopting if not they are not found. He seems very friendly, active, and sweet. He is drinking, and urinating but isn't eating very much and has not pooped. I offered him various foods including meat, but the only thing that interests him is bread (which I am not giving him very much of in hopes that he will eat something more nutritious) I have also tried giving him some milk but he isn't too interested in that either. I palpitated him stomach and it seems to be fine; no bloating, no pain, did not feel any obstructions. Should I be concerned over his lack of enthusiasm about eating? How do I determine if he is constipated? Are there any signs I should be paying attention to? Other than this he is really content, and a playful. I just want to be sure I am not missing anything... Thank you!

Typically strays have voracious appetites, so perhaps this little guy just wondered away from home and hasn't been found yet.
If he is in good body condition, not emaciated or very thin and seems to be content and happy I wouldn't worry too much unless he continues to not eat or starts vomiting.
It could be the excitement from being found and brought into a different situation and he is just a little apprehensive about things.
I would refrain from giving him milk it can cause diarrhea.
Try to stick to dog foods and away from people food.
IF you think he is constipated and hasn't had a bowel movement by tomorrow, you can try giving him some canned pumpkin, not pie filling, just plain pumpkin, if he doesn't go for that then try low or no sodium canned green beans, or a teaspoon or so of plain yogurt.
I only mention them all because he seems like a picky little guy.
Good Luck with him.
