Hi,
This could be a Baker's cyst. These are small cysts formed on the covering of the knee joint known as the synovium. The synovial fluid increases in amount and when the pressure builds up, the fluid bulges into the back or sides of the knee causing a lump.
Usually no treatment is necessary unless the lump is infected (in which case, there will be pain) or if the lump grows big enough to cause discomfort and difficulty in movement.

However, without a proper examination it is impossible to tell you for sure whether this is the diagnosis.
