How do I test proper psi for a hot water tank?

You can buy a test gauge with a garden hose fitting at HD, Lowe's or other source. Screw it onto the HW drain and slowly open the drain. Should be 45-65#. If higher or lower than that, you should adjust the PRV for the house, with water running . If too low, screw the bolt down and if too high, screw the bolt out.

Great answer ma, hot psi should be the same as cold psi unless you have a backflow prevented. The same test could be done on the garden spigot on the outside of the home. Does you house have a pressure reducing valve (prv)?
