Hello:
Whoda thunk it? It HAD to be a righty (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/09/chris-christie-drugs-war-on-drugs_n_1659687.html) to do it, though. The left is too afraid of being accused of being soft on crime..

I don't see anywhere that his solution is to legalize everything . He still has mandatory sentencing . It's just that the mandatory sentencing includes drug treatment . That seems to be a wise course of action to me.

Well, you didn't expect him to sound like a liberal, did you? It's a beginning. He's starting the conversation. He recognizes that drugs are a HEALTH problem, and not necessarily a LEGAL problem.
I don't know where it'll go from here. Maybe nowhere. I've just never heard a standing governor speak the way he did about the "failed" drug war.

He was a prosecutor for 8 years before he was a govenor, so he has creds on the subject from first hand experience.

He's right, addiction is a health issue and needs to be addressed specifically, however distribution is a criminal issue and this should not be forgotten

FYI, NORML kind of has a hankering for the Bush days (http://blog.norml.org/2012/07/12/feds-target-harborside-health-center-californias-largest-most-prominent-medical-cannabis-dispensary/)...
Feds Target Harborside Health Center — California’s Largest, Most Prominent Medical Cannabis Dispensary
Many of California’s most prominent and well-respected medical cannabis dispensaries and related facilities — including Oaksterdam University, Berkeley Patients Group, and Harborside Health Center (HHC) — flourished under the George W. Bush administration. But they’ll be lucky to survive President Barack Obama’s first term.
Meanwhile in Colorado, pro-legalization advocates are using Pat Robertson as their poster child (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/07/pro-pot-activists-put-pat-robertson-on-marijuana-billboard/).

Hello again, Steve:
I believe I mentioned how Obama is Bush on steroids in terms of his war on pot. The Harborside bust is old news.
Maybe, just maybe this is the last hurrah before the PEOPLE force the government to legalize it.

The bust may be old news but the mention of Bush being friendlier to the cause by the country's biggest pro-pot advocate was just worth mentioning. Seems you keep finding friends in the unlikeliest places.
