How do I approach a potential manufacturer to supply their products for my independent business that I want to establish?

I wish to be an exclusive distributor of a specific dog food company from the U.S. I want to market their brand in my country (Outside the U.S.).
I'm still not running an active business profile to show them because I need to know if the company agrees to cooperate with me, how do I get them to take me seriously?

What would that initial letter say?. Include?. To sow the seed, so the prospect of a long term working relationship is a reality from the outset and my letter is not just put straight into the shredder! So back to my original question:

How do I approach a potential manufacturer to supply their products for my new (proposed) business?
