I have a car that hasn't been driven in 8 years. The loan is defaulted and I want to settle with the lender. I have the title, but the registration is expired. How can I drive the car while I settle with the lender?

Illegally. You may not be able to register if there is a lien on the title.

Can't you simply renew the registration? When you pay off the lender, you can get clear title, but I don't see why you can't renew the registration in the mean time.
