My outside compressor will not turn on, I do not know anything about air conditioning units, but I am waiting until Monday to call a repair person because of weekend repair costs. Should I turn the inside unit to the off position or does that not matter--it still has a little air blowing out but not much and not enough to cool the home. I did check breakers and they seem to be OK

You also need to check the Breaker Outside. Hopefully you just need to reset.
Do you get any sound from the outside unit when set to cool.
If all else, turn fan on, circulation may help.
