The ceiling fan in our bedroom was working when we went to bed but had stopped before morning. However, the light works. We do not know how old the fan is. Could it just need oiling? If so, how do we oil it?

Unless it is a Hunter Original it cannot be oiled. Even then, they are oiled for life and this would not stop it dead.

More than likely the fan motor simply died. Best bet is to replace the whole thing. They are not that expensive these days.

How is this fan controlled; two switches on the wall, remote, pull chains or a combination of any of these?

One switch on wall, then pull chains for both the fan and light.
Thank you,

OK, if there is only one switch and the light works we know its not a bad power supply to the ceiling box or fan. Next step is to test the fan pull chain switch, do you have test probes?
