My ex-boyfriend is on the title to my house. We split up last year and he purchased a truck. Now he is defaulting on the truck and I am worried there is a lien on the house. How can I check to see if there is a lien as I am thinking of selling the house?

You can search for this info on line here

https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/real-estate-law/www.ontario.ca/en/services_for_business/.../STEL01_086166.html

I just noticed they are updating this website but you can still access the information.

I can search only by name. I want to search my address / property to see if there are any liens against my house. Is this the same thing?

You need to check with your county where deeds are generally recorded. Whether they have an online search or not you need to check with them. But since a car loan is generally considered a secured loan its not likely that a lien would be issued on another asset.

And if the Ontario lien laws are anything like the laws in the US, the creditor would first need to file suit and get a judgment, for it to become a lien on the real property.
