My 11 year old female Maltese started peeing in the house about 6 months ago and won't stop! Im talking like 5 times a DAY!! I have small children and I am getting sooo frusterated. I tell her no and she looks ashamed... She knows better, so I don't know why she's doing it.. maybe just getting old?? Anyway does anybody have any ideas why this may be happening?

It could be age.. A trip to the vet for a health exam will rule that out.

With age comes urinary incontenance.. The muscles that control it aren't quite connecting to the brain.. She knows she has to go potty, but doesn't know until her body starts to eliminate it.

It could also be behavioral. Any recent changes in your home as of late? New routines? Any new additions? Older dogs have a very hard time adjusting to something new.. Is she lashing out at you in protest? No.. She is slightly confused as to what is going on.

You first step should be the vet. Its very likely she might have urinary infections/stones. Both problems will cause her to pee sporadically.

In all honesty, until you rule some things out... its very pointless to scold her.. Her sorrowful looks she is giving is only for show... She might not be able to help it.. and you scolding her can either make it worse.. or make her be afraid of you.
