Sometimes the orifice will get restricted or plug up with dirt. Believe it or not small spiders have also put there web in the orifice intake and restricted the very small hole. The reason I mention this is because a thermocouple needs a good hard flame to generate the correct milivoltage to keep the gas valve safety activated. You might check this but remember. The hole in the orifice is a numbered drill bit size and is very small. When you start picking around in there you do not want to increase that hole size or the pilot flame will be much to large.

Also, make sure the flame is on 3/8" of tip only. If it's too much or too little it will not work. Sometimes the coil in gas valve is bad, but you need to test that with an ohm meter.
