Whenever it is exessively hot out, 90+ the HVAC unit seems to leak water all over the furnace room floor. Why is this? We use a dehumidifier and still have to mop up the mess at least twice a day,

The indoor coil drain could be partially restricted and when it gets hoter the unit generates more water and there goes the water on the floor. Clean the drain line out.

There seems to be a 1/2" pvc drain line comng out - is that whate you are referring to? And what would be the best way to clean out? There also is an opening for what looks like the same thing and it is currently plugged with a red plastic plug. If I remoe this plug water flows for a bit.

Is there a condensate pump or just a gravity drain? Where is the unit located? Sometimes mud daubers build nests in the drains, sometimes the condensate tray under the A coil gets rusted and fills the drain hole.
