My dog Kirby is 13 years old (Shih-Tzu / Poodle) completely blind. She was eating Science Diet for a long time, now suddenly she refuses to eat it. We have let her go a couple of days without food hoping she will start eating again. However, she just smells her food and walk away. I cook for her chicken breast or fish or ground beef no matter what is she eats a littler the following day she won't want it anymore and I have to look for something new. She won't even try to eat any of her treats.

Her nutrition worries me. I know she could eat and her bodily functions are OK.
I was told that she is acting like that because she is near her final days. Any one have and idea. Oh, all necessary vet checks and been done.

Vet checks? Like what? A blood panel?

Older pets who aren't wanting to eat are susceptable to kidney failure and/or diabetes.

If a home cooked meal doesn't trigger her appetite, I'm not sure what will.

Maybe someone will come along on here with some advise on getting older dogs that aren't interested in food to eat...

Thank you Lucky098,
Blood/stool labs, for everything, kidney, diabetes, no obstructions found, of course she eats a littler then don't want the same thing again. Just won't touch it.
Thank you for repplied.
